KAMAWANU -dayori (Kamawanu newsletter) (2003)
Client: PIE BOOKS
This was the first book published by KAMAWANU, a company selling dyed cotton cloth called tenugui. They requested that each page be designed to be used as a postcard.
Since the cards would be detached, Takahashi decided to keep enough width of paper between the book's binding and the perforated line to print tenugui patterns and descriptions so that after all the cards were gone, the product would still function as a mini-book.
She also decided to explain how the tenugui fabrics were dyed and made into products, as well as details regarding the patterns, various uses for them (in illustrations and text), and other enjoyable information. Users can open up the book jacket to find various usages along with the patterns.
On top of regular design ideas for displaying things, Takahashi can add inspiring and amusing features where needed, a signature creative strength of hers.
